Sports entertainment venue Sports Challenge America plans to open April 1 near where the Naples-Fort Myers greyhound track once stood in Bonita Springs.
PBS Contractors in association with Magic City Casino broke ground on the 5-acre property in March 2022. Miami-based Magic City Casino also owns the Bonita Springs Poker Room on the southeast corner of Bonita Beach Road and Old 41 Road.
“[Magic City Casino] is a well-established gaming company, they’ve been in business for many years, 50 plus years in our area, this is the pilot property,” said David Minton, senior project manager at PBS Contractors. “There is no other place like it in the United States. This is the first to have this type of business plan. And we’re excited for you to be here in Bonita Springs and give Southwest Florida the opportunity to be the first entertaining community with this concept.”
Sports Challenge America will feature a six-lane bowling alley along with five golf simulator rooms that will allow the challenger to choose from numerous courses from around the world. There will be a par 3 challenge hole where the player can bet for himself. In addition, a soccer field goal kicking challenge, soccer goal challenge, and baseball batting and pitching challenge will include betting components. A full-court shooting basketball challenge is also planned on an outdoor court that will also be used for tournament events.
For dining, Sports Challenge America’s indoor/outdoor seating area and outside bar will partner with the adjacent Brass Tap restaurant. The outdoor bar area will be staffed by Brass Tap employees.
Minton said the various athletic offerings that Sports Challenge America will bring to the area will cater to the diverse age demographic of Southwest Florida. He doesn’t expect many in their 70s to be kicking field goals, but they can enjoy the golf, the bowling and the atmosphere.
The place will have a private party room for business and personal events.
Ticketing at Sports Challenge America will depend on which feature or challenge the visitor chooses. There will be assistants scattered throughout the facilities at all events to attend to the challengers.
“We are excited to add this to our community and hope everyone enjoys their experience when they visit our facility,” Minton said.
