(WBNG) – A local sports charity is giving back to the youth in our community.

Our support of the New York Games helps raise money to provide scholarships to aspiring young athletes — which cover equipment and registration fees.

“The cost of tools and equipment is much higher today than it was back when I was in school,” says Our Sports Editor Terri Farrell. “When families worry about putting food on their table, they don’t worry about their children playing sports, even though we know all the benefits of sports.”

Last month, Support Our Sports NY hosted a football and soccer game sponsored by Molina Health Care to benefit the team.

Superbowl Champ and Endicott native, Art Jones, makes a special appearance at the tournament — saluting families and sharing his love of sports with youth.

“To have more support and services to help our children have the opportunity to play sports, which allows families to have peace of mind that their children will be responsible for something. It will help keep them out of trouble,” said Farrell.

Youth must follow the required application process to receive financial assistance from Support Our Sports NY.

For more information on how to apply or how to donate to the team, contact Terri Farrell at tfarrell224@yahoo.com or visit our New York Sports Support Facebook page.
