As much as I’d love to talk here about how the Cowboys are good because of Cooper Rush, I’m not going to because that’s not exactly true. The Cowboys are 3-1 right now because their defense is. to destroy everyone: They can stop the run, can stop the pass and have a unique ability to embarrass quarterbacks.
The Cowboys have 15 sacks this season, the second-highest total in the NFL. On the other hand, the Rams’ offensive line has been under attack all year, which has turned the first four weeks of the season into a nightmare for Matthew Stafford.
If you saw what happened to Stafford in Week 1 — he was sacked seven times against the Bills — then you have a taste of what could happen to him this week. If you saw what happened to Matthew Stafford on Monday night — he was sacked seven times against the 49ers — then you got a taste of what could happen to him this week. Stafford has been sacked 16 times this season, tied for second in the NFL, and based on what I’ve seen from the Cowboys defense, they may double that number.
The problem with the Rams is that they have never had Stafford sacked two or more times in a game. In Stafford’s 22 regular season games with the team, the Rams are 11-1 with one or fewer sacks, but just 3-6 with multiple sacks. In fact, the Rams have a tough time winning with Stafford getting beat.
Another thing about the Cowboys defense is that no one can give them points. The Cowboys have yet to score 20 points in any game this season, which is impressive when you consider that they have faced quarterbacks like Joe Burrow and Tom Brady.
Ever since Dak Prescott went down, the Cowboys’ formula for winning games has been pretty simple: Play great defense and pray Cooper Rush doesn’t make mistakes on offense. The prayers are clearly working because Rush has been out of action for four weeks. I don’t know if the Cowboys will stick with Rush for another week or turn the offensive reigns over to Dak Prescott, but I don’t care, I’m taking them either way. “
