Danny Kelly is a British journalist. After first writing for New Musical Express (NME) in the early 1980s, by the end of the decade he was editor of the iconic music magazine. He later edited the music video for contestant Q before turning to sports broadcasting.

Making up the much-loved duo with Danny Baker, he has appeared on the BBC, BT Sport, and TalkSport.

He currently hosts The Athletic’s Tottenham Hotspur podcast, The View From The Track, and Monday marked his 100th edition at the helm.

He sat down with The Athletic’s Jacob Whitehead to discuss falling into broadcasting, the relationship between football and music, and why he had his picture taken by Sol Campbell…

What is your first love, football or music?

Oh, this question is incredibly difficult. I’ve been a lucky man, making my living from two of the three things I really love. I like popular music. I like football. And I love history – but I don’t think anyone really cares about my opinion on the Anglo-Prussian treaties of the 17th century.
