Week 5 of the college football season is in full swing as more great games continue on Saturday as the CBS Sports Network’s schedule of games continues to race for championships across the country. Two games took place on Friday, with three more slated for Saturday as the first week of October kicks off the season across the country so far.

To start things off on Friday, UTSA defeated host Middle Tennessee 45-30 as the Blue Raiders bounced back from last week’s upset of Miami in the Conference USA opener for both teams. Then, in a Mountain West showdown later in the night, a much-improved UNLV team rallied to defeat New Mexico 31-20 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Saturday’s tri-header begins at Army, where the Black Knights host winless Georgia State in a battle of teams looking to pull away after a tough start. Then, in the afternoon, Fresno State returns to action after a bye week to play UConn. Finally, Wyoming hosts San Jose State in an overnight Mountain West battle.

Here’s a complete recap of all the action from Week 5 on CBS Sports Network. Always Eastern

Stories: When Fresno linebacker Jake Haener was carted off the field in the Bulldogs’ loss to USC two weeks ago, the prospect of him returning this season looked bleak. But Fresno State coach Jeff Tedford said this week that Haener is now “week-to-week” with an ankle injury. Whether he plays against UConn or not, the Bulldogs (1-2) should have enough power to overcome a UConn team that has outscored UConn 100-10 over the past two weeks at Michigan and NC State.
