On September 15, Robin Roberts, co-host of ABC’s Good Morning America, was honored by the Center for Sports Media for her esteemed career with the Lifetime Professional Achievement Award at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York City. This event brought together professionals and the Seton Hall community to celebrate Robin Roberts along with the center’s founding.

In addition to the numerous sports media professionals and administrators who attended the event, Seton Hall students were invited to help out, produce social media content and make meaningful connections with the individuals who attended. About 20 students from the College of Communication and the Arts, Stillman School of Business, and the Buccino Leadership Institute enjoyed the opportunity to participate.

“Being able to attend the Sports Media Gala is something you will always be grateful for,” Claire Wolfe ’23 said of the event. “Hearing advice from someone as influential as Robin Roberts reminded me to be ambitious, stay passionate and be willing to do anything to get where you want to go.”

Those same feelings of gratitude for attending the event were shared by Nick Morgan ’26. Although Morgan was only on campus for a few weeks, he was excited to take the opportunity, saying, “After only three weeks into my college career, I already had the opportunity to meet successful Seton Hall alumni and other leaders in the sports media. industry that I look up to. It was great to hear about the future of the Center for Sports Media and I can’t wait to take advantage of it over the course of my time here”

The Sports Media Gala also highlighted the Center’s interdisciplinary goals. Arianna Weling ’23, a double major in Marketing and English, took a lot away from attending the event.

“Robin Roberts provided enlightening advice and guidance that I will remember forever — personally and professionally,” said Weling. “Overall, the event was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. To be surrounded by some of the sports industry’s most insightful, hard-working and successful individuals has been an honor and has changed the way I view my future aspirations .”

The event also included a panel discussion that brought together former and current Seton Hall students to discuss the student experience of on-campus sports media, and where they think the future of the Center might go.

“I was honored to have the opportunity to be on the panel to talk about my experience with Seton Hall and how I got involved with Pirate Sports Network,” Wiseman said. “I was happy to share the great experience I have on campus, and I can’t wait to see what other great opportunities this center will bring”
