Vanderbilt at Hawaii

at 22:30 | CBS Sports Network, CBSSports.com, CBS Sports App — Get to know the name Mike Wright, because the Vanderbilt quarterback will be one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2022 season. Problem? He won’t get much help at Vanderbilt. Timmy Chang has taken over the Rainbow Warriors and will announce his presence with a bang — a stellar offensive performance that will remind him of his days at quarterback in Hawaii. That will force the Commodores into a shootout — something Wright and Co. will be able to win thanks to the signal-caller’s dual-threat ability. Odds: Hawaii +6.5 — Barrett Sallee

at 16:00 | Big Ten Network, fuboTV (Try Free) — The Cowboys were decimated by exits, including stud wide receiver Isaiah Neyor. Also, the entire left side of the offensive line needs to be rebuilt. The Illini, on the other hand, have an established transfer quarterback in Tommy DeVito who won’t be fazed by anything the Cowboys throw at him. The combination of DeVito and established offensive skill players will force Wyoming into a shootout…and it’s not built for that. Pick: Illinois -10 — Barrett Sallee

Nebraska vs. Northwestern (Ireland)

Featured Game | Northwestern Wildcats vs Nebraska Cornhuskers

at 12:30 | Fox, fuboTV (Try Free) — If I’m betting on expansion, I’m taking Northwestern and the points — but not because I have that much faith in the Wildcats. I don’t think many points were scored in this game. Nebraska has made a lot of changes on the offensive side of the ball, and there’s a good chance the Cornhuskers will be on the limited playbook for the first game of the season. I expect Northwestern’s defense to improve as well, because it’s part of the program’s DNA. Even if it isn’t, and if Nebraska’s offense is firing on all cylinders, we can still count on Northwestern’s offense not doing too much damage. Under is the best game. Pick: Under 49.5 — Tom Fornelli

As the season has expanded during the College Football Playoff, fewer teams are choosing to do so, opting instead to play a game in "Week Zero" thus earning an extra bye week during the season.
