After entering the transfer portal on May 1, former Florida basketball star Keyontae Johnson has decided to move to Kansas State, he confirmed to On3 on Saturday. The stadium’s Jeff Goodman was the first to report his decision.

“I chose Kansas State because the coaching staff wants their players to improve every day, on and off the court, and the fan base is one of the best in the country,” he said. he told the recruiting site.

Kansas State beat Memphis, Nebraska and Western Kentucky for the former Gators star.

Johnson hasn’t played in a game since collapsing in a game in December 2020. Along with having a ceremonial departure on his senior day in Florida last season, Johnson has remained at the gap as a scout and assistant coach to former Gators coach Mike. White.

Over two full seasons and the four games of his third season in which he started, Johnson averaged 11 points and 6.5 rebounds in 72 appearances.

Johnson has been medically cleared to play, Goodman says, so despite the health issues, Johnson could return to college basketball for the 2022-23 season.

Earlier this year, Johnson was investigated after being formally charged with sexual assault in March. The case was dismissed on July 7, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

With the sacking, the 23-year-old has the chance to return to the pitch next season.

The investigation, as first reported by WUFT’s T.J. Legacy-Cole, stems from an incident that allegedly occurred Feb. 26 at a party at an apartment complex near the Florida campus. According to court documents, Johnson’s accuser had been drinking before the party and asked to use the bathroom in his apartment, but did not recall walking home. Two witnesses reportedly described Johnson’s accuser as “very drunk” and “having no sense” at the time of the incident.

The accuser told Gainesville police she remembered lying in Johnson’s apartment with him on top of her as Johnson asked her when she had recently been tested for STDs. About half an hour later, Johnson’s accuser reportedly fell ill after walking to the parking lot and was unable to stand on her own. She woke up early the next morning feeling like she had had sex and contacted police on February 28 after being examined for sexual assault.

Gainesville police investigated Johnson and allegedly listened in on a call between the 22-year-old and his accuser in which he admitted to having unprotected sex with her after she was intoxicated. Johnson also said he asked for her consent during the meeting, according to WUFT, and maintained his innocence after the case was dropped.
