The preseason rankings continued to roll in and Notre Dame continued to find itself near the top of the rankings. Sports Illustrated released the preseason Top 25 and the Fighting Irish registered at number 6 in the rankings.
Sports Illustrated has the Irishman at the top of his game, but writer Pat Forde expressed questions about the Irishman heading into the first year of the Marcus Freeman era.
“Is this even bigger for a team with a new coach and a fresh start at quarterback? Maybe. But everyone behind the top three has question marks. Confirmed items on the Fighting Irish roster include some great talent. : tight end Michael Mayer. , center Jarrett Patterson, defensive end Isaiah Foskey, middle linebacker JD Bertrand and Northwestern transfer Brandon Joseph. The season-ending injury to receiver Avery Davis in preseason camp carries and great threat.” – Forde
Four of Notre Dame’s opponents also find themselves in the SI Top 25, including three in the Top 10.
Ohio State is Notre Dame’s biggest rival, coming in at No. 2 in the preseason rankings. There is no doubt that the No. 6 Fighting Irish and No. 2 Buckeyes will be the biggest opening weekend of the season.
