Parker Kligerman is all about improvements. Whether it’s flying from LaGuardia Airport to the Nascar race or its results, his motto (and popular hashtag) has made it #GotDatUpgrade.

Kligerman is unique in the NASCAR world, serving as a NASCAR analyst on NBC, a pit reporter, and an In the Wall host, all while competing part-time at the Camping World Truck Series. Henderson Motorsports, the small team he is competing for, nearly ended two and a half years ago, which made him wonder about his future.

“I think from where I was two years ago – I said that to the Hall of Famer who helped me a lot in giving me good advice – it was pretty gloomy,” said Kligerman. “I wasn’t sure how to go on with this. At this point, I had to confront some serious self-actualization. “

Instead of taking part in the mediocre rides of Nascar’s top three divisions, he continued to compete with Henderson Motorsports after losing his part-time ride to Gaunt Brothers Racing due to a driver who brought in extra funding.

Kligerman’s commitment to the small team paid off in July, dominating and winning the Mid-Ohio SportsCar Course in his third career win. This is arguably the greatest triumph of his career, knowing he has been able to organize an almost perfect weekend with a team that only has one full-time employee, Crew Chief Chris Carrier.

Victory is a potential turning point in Kligerman’s life. At 32, he returned as a hot commodity in the agency’s open market, and his name is circulating in the gossip mill.

“I can see it on Reddit – I’m a great person on Reddit – and thank them all,” he said. “I’ve seen my name appear in all these different places and I’m absolutely flattered.

“I hope we can embrace this enthusiasm and that it will culminate in getting back to working full time as many people will be very excited. It’s a heart-hearting thing for me.

Kligerman has been meeting with the Cup Series and Xfinity Series teams over the past year and a half to discuss the potential options. Last year, it was considered for a full-time Xfinity ride with Richard Childress Racing. While the result is still a part-time Truck Series drive, he believes he is getting closer to returning to full-time racing.

His contact with fans and in front of television cameras is greater than his peers, who often travel full-time with small teams, hoping to break out and get a chance like Ross Chastain and Landon Cassill. Others, like Ryan Preece, will be racing part-time for large teams and hope to attract major corporate partners.

However, Kligerman’s path makes him appear on television every week. He is seen in a variety of roles and even has his own NBC Sports show.

“When I first went to the TV site, I saw it as a launch pad to raise my fame and then go back to racing full time,” said Kligerman. “It did not turn out as expected. It keeps me in sports and builds connections in sports and with fans.

“I say all the time that the driver’s side helps the TV side because it makes my brain think in ways that I wouldn’t consider if I were racing. It helps me experience things that only I can bring to TV because I’m the only one who is still racing.

Kligerman’s collaboration with NBC allows him to see the bigger picture, while others may not be able to do so as they only focus on racing.

“It helped me drive the car and it helped me be a lot more relaxed to see how these things come together,” he said. “I think it all helped.”

Whether it’s a full-time opportunity at Henderson Motorsports or anywhere else, Kligerman believes now is his time to leap forward. There are multiple slots available in all three of Nascar’s top divisions for next season, and potential exposure partners may have the most prospects with him.

This year, he even led two races for the all-new Emerling-Gase Motorsports, giving the young team the best 12th place on the Circuit of the Americas.

For a driver who has almost given up on his dream, nothing can be taken for granted at this point.
