Ever since Darvin Ham became head coach of the Lakers, he has not allowed voices outside of advertising to hurt his vision for Russell Westbrook. Instead, the first-year coach welcomed him and quickly said he had a nine-star All-Star plan.
Last season, Westbrook’s productivity and efficiency dropped sharply in his first season in Los Angeles. In 78 games, Westbrook averaged 18.5 points per game while posting his bad-luck 15.0 PER. Since the Lakers missed last season’s qualifiers and many people targeted Westbrook for some reason, Ham believes things will be different from a quality guard and that “counts quickly.”
“I love Russell Westbrook,” Ham told Andscape’s Marc Spears. “I’ve got a heartfelt plan. … I think he’s growing a lot. We’re not trying to limit his energy. We’re going to be different, we’re going to reform.”
Ham also told Spears that he plans to start Westbrook next season based on the way the club plans to play and the “kind of people” who will be on the ground at the same time as the keeper.
Westbrook recently selected $ 47.1 million as his player choice for the 2022-23 season. However Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes says the Lakers and Nets have begun trade talks around Westbrook and Nets goalkeeper Kyrie Irving.
