KENT, Ohio – Four Kent State teams (men’s golf, women’s basketball, women’s golf and women’s gymnastics) received NCAA Public Recognition Awards for Academic Excellence. These four teams scored a perfect 1,000 points over the four-year period 2017-2021, highlighting the NCAA’s latest Academic Progress Rate (APR).
Each academic year, every Division I sports team across the country calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Scholarship student-athletes can earn 1 point for remaining eligible and 1 point for continuing in school or graduating each academic year. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are monitored.
The NCAA’s latest report marks the seventh consecutive year that at least four Kent State teams earned a perfect MCA score.
Five additional teams achieved perfect APR scores in the previous reported season (2020-21) – women’s cross country, field hockey, women’s softball, women’s soccer and women’s track.
“I am extremely proud of the continued academic success of our student-athletes,” said Director of Athletics Randale L. Richmond. “These results are truly a cross-departmental team effort and another building block in our foundation for graduate athletes who are boldly prepared for life after sport.”
