Fanatics, the sports merchandising company, is in negotiations to acquire the sports betting company Tipico, according to two people familiar with the matter.
An agreement has not yet been reached and the two sides are currently in a stalemate over the price, even though negotiations are underway, said the people, who asked not to be named because the discussions are private.
Tipico has a small US sports betting company with licenses in New Jersey and Colorado, but is the leading sports betting provider in Germany, according to its website.
Michael Rubin, Fanatics’ billionaire CEO, announced on Wednesday that he is selling his 10% stake in Harris Blitzer Sports Entertainment, which owns the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, paving the way for the Fanatics to enter the gaming arena.
