CASPER, Wyo. – Dr. Marlan Scully, a native of Casper, a physicist known to laboratories at Texas A&M and Princeton, returned to the city with colleague Robert Brick to hold the Quantum Science Summer Camp at Casper College.

The camp will run from July 10 to 23. Applications are now closed, but no background in quantum science or other science was required to join. While Scully has held a conference every summer in college for more than 20 years, this camp targets younger attendees — high school seniors and college freshmen, to foster interest in the field of quantum science. Students, teachers and others will study and experiment with new topics every day, with the last part of the day dedicated to discussion.

“We hope to engage students in understanding only selected principles of quantum science, and how the use of that knowledge can be applied later in the study of cellular processes and living organisms,” Brick said in field introduction video.

The first week, the camp will “go into selected principles of quantum science,” then in the second week they will study the applications of science, in addition to studying quantum biological systems.

The days will start with lectures, and those lectures are open to the public for the duration of the camp. July 11 will begin at 8 a.m. with an explanation of quantum science for beginners, given by Dr. Scully. “Quantum is the new frontier, and Marlan Scully will offer students an excellent introduction to understanding science,” Dale Bohren wrote to Oil City.

The talk will be held in room 103 of the Wold Physical Science building at Casper College.

Then, on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., university professor and business executive Michael Dowling will be Zooming in to discuss aspects of the quantum science business. This should be of particular interest to business people, or really anyone considering their careers, Bohren said.

The business talk will also be held in room 103 of the Wold Physical Science building.
