It is not surprising that officials in the Biden administration ignored the Supreme Court decision that Roe v. Wade was lifted, strongly disagree. But it’s shocking that they denounced it for a foreign audience. By attempting to make the US the world power on abortion, officials will weaken the legitimacy of US foreign policy and erode America’s standing in the world.
America’s Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield issued a statement calling Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization “a cruel, dark and dangerous decision” and stating, “I’ve traveled the world to find myself to work for women’s rights. Now this decision makes my own country an outlier among the developed nations of the world.” Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed that “The State Department will remain fully committed to providing access to reproductive health services and promoting reproductive rights around the world moving the world forward”.
