Our elected leaders at all levels seem to be mired in “blue” and “red” rhetoric. Nothing gets done and the discussions end in angry, heated arguments, with whoever yelled the longest and loudest winning. While I don’t condone Russia and China sending people to gulags and re-education camps to control rhetoric, maybe we should consider it for our elected “blues” and “reds”. This can be done very simply. They have to spend a week in Motel 6 before the feature. Why?

We recently stayed at a Motel 6. The shower handle had a “blue” dot on the right and a “red” dot on the left (such corporate perfidy)! The first day, I showered with the handle on the “blue” dot: it was too cold, and I screamed and howled. The other day I put the handle on the “Red” dot: it was too hot and I screamed and yelled. On the third day I compromised and put the handle in the middle, and guess what? I did something positive: a nice shower without screaming and yelling.

How long do our elected leaders have to spend in Motel 6 before they realize that progress comes from communication and compromise, not extreme, retrograde idealism that makes everyone stink and need a shower?
