KIRTLAND, Ohio – There is a sense of wonder around the music festival experience. Everything from clothing and hairstyles, to collective dance movements, to the atmosphere full of relentless music – it’s all designed to offer an idyllic sunny day for music fans.

No wonder Elevation Group dropped on a wonder-themed branding for its signature festivals in Ohio and Indiana. And it was, once again, an appropriate title for the WonderStruck music festival at Lakeland Community College, which takes place on July 9 and 10. (Previously, the festival was known as LaureLive, before the debut of WonderStruck in 2021.)

Lakeland grounds have been transformed into a family-friendly wonderland, with inflatable obstacle courses, interactive games, vendor villages and many festival food options awaiting lunch and dinner. -lunch.

The day was the title of The Lumineers, which got close and personal to the audience through the use of an extension of the stage that entered the crowd. At the beginning of the folk-rock band’s set, drummer Jeremiah Fraites took to the stage from below with his drum.

Fraites and singer-guitarist Wesley Schultz used the platform for performances of “Cleopatra,” “Ho, Hey,” “Flowers In Your Hair” and “Charlie Boy.” At other times, they sat back on the main stage to catch up with the rest of the band’s musicians.

The Lumineers drew the largest crowd of the day, and it was a dedicated one, too; several audience members sang together for each song.

It was a fitting end to the first half of WonderStruck 2022, which began at 1:30 p.m. with a performance prompted by Akron’s Detention – winner of the 2020 Tri-C High School Rock Off. From there, the lineup of the day continued to showcase young and rising pop acts – including soulful pop singer Mills and Brooklyn singer-songwriter Trella, whose set was delayed 30 minutes due to difficulties. technicians. Once on stage, Trella anchored her set of cinematic pop songs with her versatile pipes.

Neil Frances – the duo of Jordan Feller and Marc Gilfry – took to the main stage in the afternoon, with audience members walking under the sun for the group’s funky songs with a vintage sound. The screens on both sides of the stage showed massive disco balls, dating back a few decades to their inspirations on songs like “Show Me The Right” and “It’s Like A Dream.”

Attendees jumped between the three stages, circling between acts to catch bands like Smallpools, 24kGoldn, Tai Verdes and several bands playing at the smaller and shadier Radd Stage: Hembree, Jack Harris, Cousin Simple, 90s Kids and Niko Rubio.

Especially impressed Greens, with lively renditions of the famous tracks in TikTok “A-OK” and “Stuck in the Middle.” But it’s a self-limiting challenge as a social media sensation, with his latest single “Last Day on Earth,” also showing his soulful sounds.

“A-OK” was performed a second time, in remix form, by 24kGoldn and Verdes together, during the 24kGoldn set. The two came together well, bringing a new vibe to a song’s ear worms.

All Time Low performed directly ahead of The Lumineers, which offers the biggest rock of the day. The band, which has experienced allegations of anonymous sexual abuse against her in the past few years, still drew a large, condensed crowd that played together in songs such as “Monster” and “Dear Maria Count Me In,” along with a cover of The Weeknd’s. “Connecting lights.”

Some bands came out of the mold, but on Saturday there were times when the indie-pop vibey mix blurred together. The bottom sheet of the lineup included some similarly impressive pop acts, before some of the biggest gets of the day.

Therefore, the mix satisfied the attendees, particularly young music enthusiasts who appeared for the whole day of entertainment.

Tomorrow, WonderStruck continues with Vampire Weekend, Michael Franti & amp; Spearhead, Saint Motel and more. Tickets are still available for one day, for $ 99, at wonderstruckfest.com/tickets.
