HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – It’s been almost five months since Bridgewater College Officer John Painter and Campus Security Officer J.J. Jefferson was killed while working on the college campus.
James and Austin Painter, John Painter’s siblings, belong to the Blood Brothers group and make sure their uncle’s memory is alive.
“We cling to each other and love each other to overcome the situation, but it will always be a hole that is not lost from our family forever,” Austin said.
“Yes, it will never end,” Jacob said.
Days after Painter was killed, Jacob and Austin wrote the song until we met again. It was held at the funeral of the two valley officials.
“I couldn’t write a song to save my life and I was like,‘ What do Uncle John and I have in common? ’” Jacob said. “Of course it helped us write that.”
Painter’s siblings include Isabel Bauer and Madison Kibler, both of whom are digital media students at Bridgewater College. With their help, music videos were created until we reunited.
The video contains videos and photos of John with his family and friends. Blood Brothers took a video at Henleys Lake in Crozet, where their uncle spent a lot of time with his family.
“Fix the movie and combine it with seeing the final product … I feel like I know John even though I’ve never done that,” Baurer said. “That made me thank him even more for the sacrifice he wanted to make.”
Since the death of their uncle, the Blood Brothers have been singing the song to the Valley community.
“Everyone has experienced something like this at some point in their lives and I think and I think a lot of people can relate to the song,” Austin said. “The community as a whole has been amazing all this time.”
Music still brings people together and helps their uncle’s memory survive.
“That put a bridge between a lot of Bridgewater students and the Painter family just because they understood who John was,” Baurer said.
