One of the country’s largest grocery retailers opens a store with Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology platform.

The new QuikTrip store, located in Tulsa, is the first retailer to use cashless technology. Customers in a gas-free location will be able to insert their credit card at the store’s entrance gate, shop as usual, and then exit the store. Amazon’s licensed Just Walk Out solution uses a combination of computer vision, sensor fusion, and machine learning algorithms to determine what items buyers are taking off the shelves or returning to the shelves, and when they exit, their credit card will be charged for the items they have taken .

Initially available only at Amazon Go grocery and small-format stores, Amazon began rolling out Just Walk Out to select Amazon Fresh’s high-tech grocery stores as well as select stores at its Climate Pledge Arena location in Seattle. The retailer also licenses this technology to third-party vendors such as the airport store chain Cibo Express and the travel vendor Hudson, who has deployed a licensed version of Amazon Just Walk Out in a contactless shopping format called Hudson Nonstop.

In addition, Amazon licenses the Just Walk Out platform to outdoor sports and entertainment venues such as New York’s UBS Arena.

Amazon is working with retailers to install Just Walk Out hardware, such as cameras and sensors, in existing stores while “minimizing impact” on the business, or to include it in plans to build new and redeveloped stores. The vendor says the installation may take as little as “a few weeks” from the moment you access the store. Amazon says it will offer “all the necessary technology” and a 24/7 customer support line.

The company reports that stores serving Just Walk Out will still need people to perform tasks such as greeting customers, stocking shelves, and checking certain product IDs. Amazon says it will only collect the data it needs to deliver an accurate receipt.

“Do customers like to queue?” Dilip Kumar, Amazon’s vice president of Physical Sales and Technology, said in a previous statement to Reuters. “This has quite a wide range of applications across all store sizes, across industries, as it essentially solves the problem of providing convenience to physical locations, especially when people are having a hard time over time.”

“We are delighted to expand our presence in Tulsa to our second nationwide gas-free location, and we look forward to bringing this new innovative store to the community in downtown Tulsa,” said Aisha Jefferson-Smith, QuikTrip Corporate Communications Manager. in an official statement. “Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology is designed to eliminate checkout queues, allowing customers to seamlessly shop and get what they need quickly.”

QuikTrip Corp. is a privately owned company headquartered in Tulsa, Oklana, founded in 1958, QuikTrip has grown to over $ 11 billion with more than 950 stores in 16 states.
