WASHINGTON, Aug. 9, 2022 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced today that it will host the second USDA Food Loss and Waste Innovation Fair on September 14, 2022, from 10 am to 2 pm. EDT.
The fair will showcase the latest food waste and loss mitigation technologies, innovations, and programs developed by the USDA, academic institutions, local governments, and businesses.
“Innovation by all participants in the supply chain is critical to achieving a significant reduction in food loss and waste,” said Dr. Jean Buzby, USDA Food Loss and Waste Liaison. “The fair provides a platform to highlight a range of innovative strategies and technologies that have the potential to transform food loss and waste reduction efforts.”
Exhibitors at this year’s fair include USDA agencies that lead or fund food loss and waste programs or projects; companies and universities that are researching or commercializing innovations that have received USDA funding; and local and city governments and their partners who have received USDA grants for composting and food waste reduction.
Also among exhibitors at this year’s fair are the U.S. Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champions, which are companies and organizations that have committed to reducing food loss and waste in their own US operations by 50% by 2030.
The fair will feature presentations and more than three dozen virtual stands. Participants are invited to text or video chat with representatives in real time. Participants can also interact in a virtual networking room.
