Extending Insurance Coverage for Double Cuts to 2023 to Support Food Production, Lower Costs for American Families
WASHINGTON, July 12, 2022-Today, the Biden Administration announced additional steps are being taken to support U.S. farmers in their work to balance food prices and keep America and the world afloat amid ongoing challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, disruption supply chain, and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reduces the economic risk of raising two crops on the same land in a year, making it easier for U.S. farmers to eat in America, increase food supplies, and lower the cost of feeding American families. The action is part of a broader commitment made earlier this year by President Biden and Secretary Vilsack to increase domestic food production amid potential global food shortages linked to the invasion of Ukraine.
To reduce the risk of raising two crops on the same land in a year – a practice known as double cropping – the USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) is extending double crop insurance opportunities in more than 1,500 counties where double cropping can be implemented.

The expansion of coverage was guided by extensive reach to nearly 70 grower groups covering 28 states.
