Joint efforts of the Kona Community Police Department of the Hawai’i Police Department, Costco of Kona, Food Basket Inc. and Tommy Ching’s KAPA radio personality, “Fill A Cruiser Food Drive” will help provide food to the islanders in need.

Police will have a marked police cruise ship parked in front of Costa, where Costa members and the general public will be able to donate non-perishable food items.

All donated food will then be distributed in a food basket, which will then be provided to the residents of Hawai’i Island in need.

“During the closure of Covid-19, we really noticed an increased need for food assistance from our local community and coupon,” said Kona community police officer Dwayne Sluss.

“Kona Costco’s management and staff also realized that this event is much needed and how it would positively help our community. With their help, we created the first “Fill A Cruiser Food Drive,” which was very successful as people donated £ 4,053 in food and $ 1,381.83 in donations for a basket of food, ”Sluss added.

He noted that Covid’s restrictions have eased, and food insecurity among the island’s residents has not.

“I hope everyone takes a little time and effort to come and contribute to the food campaign.”
