Discovery Children’s Center of Kansas has hired Bert Shafer as an education coordinator. Shafer is a retired teacher who brings 34 years of classroom experience in both traditional and bilingual programs. Her role at the museum will include designing and implementing play-based educational programs that help young children begin a lifetime of learning. On the same subject : The Midland Arts Council is organizing an Art Fundraising Day. Sydni Meehan was hired as a volunteer game coordinator. Here comes the Discovery Center with a background in hospitality and tourism, most recently visiting Topeka. Her role at the museum includes working with many of the 95,000 annual visitors and the management team and volunteers.

Dan Martin is the next president of the KU Endowment. Martin was the Chief Philanthropy Officer for the Texas Division of Health St. Luke has extensive experience in higher education leadership and fundraising. Martin will take over as president on August 15. Martin will replace current president Dale Seuferling who announced his retirement in January. Seuferling will continue his service until August 15 at which time he will remain with the KU Endowment until August 31 to assist with the transition. Martin is a fourth-generation Kansan from Overland Park, with three degrees from KU and one from the University of Pennsylvania. He has spent nearly three decades working in higher education.

Cameron Miller joined Silver Lake United Methodist Church as its pastor on July 1. He replaces Alex Rossow who accepted a position in Wamego. Miller earned a bachelor’s degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University in music and a minor in business administration. He also received his Master of Divinity from Saint Paul School of Theology in May. He has been serving as an associate pastor at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Olathe for the past three years. Miller is married to Karissa, a pastor at Topeka First United Methodist Church. Silver Lake United Methodist Church, 204 Madore St., Silver Lake, welcomes everyone to attend its weekly service at 10 a.m. on Sundays.

Devin Cooper has joined Shawnee County Parks + Recreation as recreation leader. She will be responsible for the administration of the Shawnee North Community Center and the development of recreational programs. The Topeka native holds a degree in park management and conservation from Kansas State University. She previously worked as a naturalist at the Milford Nature Center, as an outdoor educator at the YMCA in Huguenot, NY, and as an early childhood nurse at Auburn-Washburn Unified School District 437.
