A glitch in American Airlines’ scheduling platform reportedly allowed pilots to drop thousands of trips as delays and cancellations derailed Fourth of July travel plans across the country.

CNBC reported on Saturday that more than 12,000 flights in July were without captains, first officers, or both after pilots were able to drop assignments due to a scheduling platform malfunction.

“They failed to get the IT system working properly, and now thousands of flights have not been assigned pilots,” said Dennis Tajer, an American Airlines captain and spokesperson for the Allied Pilots Association, adding that the situation is “uncertainty.” for passengers”. and pilots.”

The airline has reportedly suspended the schedule.
