Salem, OR — Corban University will relaunch its online business course for undergraduates this fall, with an increased emphasis on applied business. The renewed program will focus on practical business knowledge and the broad scope of business-related skills that provide a foundation for success in the marketplace.

“The goal for us is to get students actively ready for work right away,” said online program president Dr. Kristine Medanik. Corban’s online business program will continue to include key areas such as accounting, leadership and human resources, but has also integrated a focus on in-demand career courses such as project management and data analytics. The new Applied Business degree provides students with content that is easily transferable to today’s job market and emerging business sectors. Students will be able to earn a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in Applied Business with this new program model.

The program is designed with the nontraditional student in mind, balancing personalized course offerings, flexibility and personalized attention. Corban’s degree path also considers the diverse needs of the nontraditional student, focusing on instructional videos that are short and easily digestible and courses that fit free time within busy schedules. The program’s learning approach incorporates video content, podcasts, and text-based learning to keep students actively engaged and maximize their educational experience.

In Corban’s online degree structure, each student receives personal attention from a dedicated advisor and benefits from smaller classes that prioritize personal connections. Courses are structured in a carousel model, allowing students to sign up and start at any time during the course cycle without having to worry about complicated degrees and course schedules. Content is posted at the beginning of each week and can be completed on a flexible schedule that prioritizes the many different commitments and circumstances that today’s students face.

“You have the ability to navigate this content in the details and timeframes that make sense for you,” Medyanik said. “I think the beauty of online education is its flexibility, but it still requires a tremendous amount of discipline and active engagement.”

For Medyanik and his fellow Corban faculty members, the transition to a broader applied business focus allows for a greater emphasis on practical content that prepares students to excel in the workforce from day one. “I think the Applied Business degree is exactly what it says. It’s an applied business,” she said. “It’s not theoretical. It’s not hypothetical. We’re looking into these kinds of real-life, practical, going out and working tomorrow concepts.”
