Arts for Smiles Inc. celebrated the success of Back to School Giving on August 1st, as the local nonprofit organization provided more than 300 backpacks full of school supplies to Palm Beach County families in need. The bags include notebooks, pencils, binders, whiteboards, markers, glue, rulers, folders and many other items for the children.

This is the second school year that Art for Smiles has held a “Back to School Supply Drive” campaign, with significant support from many Wellington and Royal Palm Beach businesses and private donors. Many local residents have also contributed through outreach programs, such as collection boxes distributed in neighborhoods and businesses in western communities.

The Wellington non-profit organization began as a grassroots effort with a mission to bring local artists and the community together to promote happiness through art, culture and education directly to disadvantaged children in Palm Beach County.

“We are excited to be able to provide the children with everything they will need for the year. It is important that they feel ready to learn and not worry about having the right tools to help them succeed in the classroom, ” said Founder & CEO Carolina King.

The bags were delivered to several organizations, including Ella’s Closet and Lighthouse Café in Belle Glade, Inner City Innovators in West Palm Beach, and teachers at North Elementary School and Palm Springs Middle School.

Now that this year’s back-to-school campaign is over, Arts for Smiles will begin preparations for Wellington’s Lakeside Market, where the organization will have a booth with children’s arts and crafts, face painting, and craft sales. and accepting donations for their cause. most Fridays. The opening day is Friday, October 7th.
