LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Artists, vendors and residents will once again gather on Detroit Avenue for the free 45th annual Lakewood Festival of the Arts, taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. m. to 6 p.m. m. Saturday (Aug. 6) on the closed lane between Arthur and Belle avenues.

“After taking 2021 off, people were really excited to get back together last year to shop for art and listen to live music,” said Lakewood Arts Festival Board Chair Karolyn Isenhart. “There was a time when I was sitting with our jurors in a restaurant window on the corner of Detroit Avenue and Warren Road.

“I was watching people walk by with bags, artwork and framed pieces under their arms. It was really cool to see.”

Featuring 165 artists from across the country, the festival is a juried showcase of all fine art mediums. There are also more than 30 booths operated by various non-profit organizations and local groups.

In addition to activities for children, street performers, musicians and artists will perform on various stages and in the pop-up crowd along Detroit Avenue.

“We’ll also have the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Studio Go mobile art studio for an interactive street art creation that people can participate in,” Isenhart said.

“The Lakewood Public Library will have a tribute to poet Daniel Thompson during the festival and the Beck Center will have opera once again this year, which is great.”

Estimated attendance for the annual affair is in the neighborhood of 14,000 people.

“Whether you’ve been going years ago or this is your first year, there’s always something new at the festival,” Isenhart said. “We also have a couple of new artists in each category, so we’re a little excited.”
