Prime Video has announced its slate of original movies for this fall and winter, and there are some fascinating films to choose from.

There’s Sylvester Stallone’s superhero flick Samaritan, Lena Dunham’s medieval comedy Catherine Called Birdy, the Harry Styles and Emma Corrin-led My Policeman, and more. Some of the movies (like My Cop) are shown in theaters before they are available to stream on Prime Video. Others are streaming exclusively on Prime – we’ve noted both release dates, when applicable, in our list below

Top pick: Nanny

Here are all the original movies coming to Prime Video this fall. On the same subject : Video game sales will fall for the first time in years as the industry prepares for recession.

Aisha (Anna Diop) is an undocumented single mother from Senegal trying to build a new life for her young son by working as a nanny for a wealthy and entitled couple in Manhattan. Day and night, she is governed by the exuberant demands of this overcrowded family, racist microaggressions, and outright avarice. But even sleep does not give her rest, as she is haunted by strange nightmares of mocking doppelgangers, crawling spiders and mythical creatures. Soon, they begin to creep into her waking hours as well. Are they a warning or a threat? Can he decipher their murky message in time?

In her feature debut, writer/director Nikyatu Jusu uses folklore and surreal horror to turn the all-too-real struggles of immigrant mothers into a vividly haunting thriller. A story of contrasts and conflicts, Aisha’s modest home and cheerful community explodes with bold colors, while her employer’s apartment is a withering gray. In costume and attitude, the stunning Diop reveals the code-switching required to survive as a nanny. Her eyes flash with righteous fury as the gaping lens of nanny cameras pops out around her. Ten hopping bugs and human moans play as the perfect backdrop to a downward spiral, slippery and spooky. With a climax that hits hard like a tidal wave, Nanny is a crowd pleaser. It’s no wonder she took home the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Drama Competition. Whether you enjoy thoughtful character studies or the treacherous terrain found in horror, you’ll want to seek this out. — Kristy Puchko, Deputy Entertainment Editor (*)
