Sometimes in life, you need a movie that will blow you away – a movie that completely takes you away from whatever is going on in real life and sends your emotions into overdrive of love, love, tears, joy, and basically total annihilation. . The best romantic movies are often a good place to find that kind of entertainment, and Netflix subscribers seem to think that Purple Hearts definitely fits the bill. Reactions on social media seem to indicate that audiences have been completely blown away by the new film since its release, but in the best way.

Purple Hearts hit the streaming service on Friday, July 29, and remained one of Netflix’s top movies over the weekend. The main actors in this film are Sofia Carson as Cassie Salazar – a waitress and musician struggling to pay for insulin – and Nicholas Galitzine as Luke Morrow – a Marine fighting in Iraq. The two devise a scheme to marry for the benefits before he is deployed, and you can probably guess what happens next. Despite any plot predictability, this Twitter user said the film hit the spot:

just watch this and I LOVE IT!! cause honestly i just need that cheesy romance formula from hate to lover and fake relationship at this point, for my crazy week watch you purple hearts on netflix pic.twitter.com/o6024FLZN9July 29, 2022

The film is based on the 2017 book of the same name by Tess Wakefield. A number of book-to-screen adaptations are expected in 2022, and a good number of those projects are books being adapted for Netflix. While on-screen renditions sometimes fail to capture the essence of the original material, many TikTok users are giving this rendition the book lover’s stamp of approval:

The fake love story arc between Cassie and Luke seems to have taken viewers on quite the ride, and some on social media – like this one – were spoiler-free and not-too-dramatic-reacting:

Some people on Twitter were under the impression that they were supposed to continue living after watching that movie. Needless to say, one feels that such a thing cannot be followed even after experiencing:

Purple Hearts served up the fake dating trope, slow burn, the one bed trope, enemies of lovers, marriage of convenience, he fell at first but she fell harder AND the long distance trope and you simply expect me to get more more than him????? July 31, 2022

Although it probably wasn’t the goal of the movie, some TikTokers found a new life goal for them – to marry a fake Marine. Check out this post:

Purple Hearts seems to have all the tension and horror that romance needs, and this Twitter fan says to find the angst of enemies-to-lovers, wait for the forehead touching. Look:

Its soundtrack is even worth it, it seems. This crying TikToker rates the movie as mathematically impossible 12/10.

From 11 critics’ reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, Purple Hearts scored 27% below average. But the general audience has spoken, and they disagree. With more than 100 viewer votes, the film has a fresh 84% rating, and this Twitter user argues that you should stop what you’re doing and go to Netflix:

Just finished Purple Hearts and everyone stop whatever you are doing and watch it. it’s so good i liked it. pic.twitter.com/nAEFk4ymry July 31, 2022
