The Enzian Theater (Facebook | Website) will host the 35th anniversary of the screening of the cult martial arts movie “Miami Connection” on Friday, August 5.

The movie, which was released in 1987, directed the 9-step Black Belt, philosopher, inspirational speaker, grandmaster Y.K. Kim (founder of the Martial Arts World brand) and is seen as one of the most entertaining martial arts films recorded in the United States since then.

The film, which was shot in Orlando and contains many recognizable local landmarks, focuses on the unfortunate, pathetic takedowns of international martial arts rock band Dragon Sound, which somehow ends up fighting crime using real fists rather than legal and hitting in illicit drug trafficking in Florida. While Shakespeare is not, the movie was shown by accident in 2009 at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, Texas, from which news quickly spread about how cool the movie was and built enough support to re-release it.

Gawker called it “Too bad, this is essential.”

Ticket holders will be able to win one of two copies of Dragon Sound’s out-of-the-box seven-inch album, including “Friends” and “Against The Ninja.”
