Johnny Depp said he “surrounds himself with art” but kept his paintings to himself
Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has made around £3 million in just a few hours through the sale of his first art collection.
Depp sold 780 pieces at Castle Fine Art’s 37 galleries, including London’s Covent Garden, within hours of announcing the sale on Instagram.
The Friends And Heroes collection features people who have inspired them, including Rolling Stone Keith Richards and Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor.
“I have always used art to express my feelings,” said the 59-year-old.
“My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever be limited.”
The actor said he used his art, which also features actor Al Pacino and folk legend Bob Dylan, to “reflect on the things that matter most to me, like my family, friends and people I admire.”
The Hollywood actor sold paintings of “inspirational” figures including (retd) Keith Richards, Elizabeth Taylor and Bob Dylan.
All 780 pieces were sold within hours on Thursday, with individual framed figures selling for £3,950 and a full four-figure portfolio selling for £14,950.
Depp’s Instagram post, captioned simply “NOW AT #CASTLEFINEART,” which drove tons of traffic to the gallery’s website, failed miserably.
