Denver Arts & Venues is now accepting qualifications for three new Denver public art projects: The Urban Farm, Federal Boulevard and 25th Avenue, and Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center.
“We’re always excited to bring art to Denver through new commissions, but we’re particularly excited about how closely these three projects are connected to the community,” said Michael Chavez, Denver’s Public Art program manager. “We are asking artists to consider the cultural diversity and local history of the areas and neighborhoods where these works will live, and for the Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center project, the artist will have the opportunity to incorporate and engage community members in the creation of the work. of art.”
The Urban Farm: Budget – $100,000, open to Colorado artists and artist teams
The Denver Public Art Selection Panel invests heavily in cultural diversity, local history and sustainability, and aspires to create meeting spaces that are inclusive, accessible and welcoming for all. The panel hopes to see artwork that reflects the region’s rich cultures, both current and historical. The work(s) must be welcoming and interactive and have an educational or agricultural focus. The works can also be playful and suitable for children, as well as functional. Artists should consider the farm’s unique location and accessibility for visitors and staff, and consider incorporating a vertical element to promote visibility into and out of the farm’s property. Federal Boulevard and 25th Avenue: Budget – $49,000, open to Colorado artists and artist teams

Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center: Budget – $20,000, Open to Artists and Artist Teams from Colorado Argonne Way in Denver. The purpose of this public art commission is to create an inspiring and welcoming experience for recreation center users. Artists should consider how the artwork will enhance and celebrate the neighborhood’s culture, and understand and respect the diversity of the community. The commission will require community involvement by the selected artist.

Denver Public Art is also hosting a virtual pre-registration meeting on August 10 at 5:30 pm. for interested candidates. The meeting will address the background and objectives of the project, and the application process for these three eligibility applications: The Urban Farm, Federal Boulevard and 25th Avenue, and Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center. The Denver Public Art Program was established in 1988 as an Executive Order under Mayor Federico Peña. The order, enacted in an Ordinance by the Denver City Council in 1991, mandates that 1% of any capital improvement project over $1 million undertaken by the city be set aside for the inclusion of Art. For the past 30 years, these works, along with historical and donated works, have made up the City’s Public Art Collection.
