Netflix is a streaming giant in the world of online entertainment and has seen many changes in both pricing and production over the past few years. That being said, there are always new projects on the horizon, and 2023 could be a good year for Netflix if it manages to consistently release quality movies and TV series.

10 God Country
Netflix’s Sweet Tooth happens to be one of its most popular television series, and thanks to its success, its showrunner, Jim Mickle, is bringing another comic book property to life in God Country. On the same subject : The 7 best movies to watch before leaving Netflix in July 2022.
From the minds of Donny Cates, Jason Wordie and Geoff Shaw, God Country focuses on an elderly widowed man who finds an enchanted sword that somehow cures his dementia. As a result of this discovery, terrifying and dangerous creatures appear, and it’s up to him and his new weapon to take them out. The casting is still unknown, but it was recently revealed that Donny Cates, one of the comic’s writers, has finalized the script for the 2021 film.
9 Dept. H
Netflix’s ongoing partnership with the owners of Dark Horse Comics has, and will, serve as the basis for many of their original programs to be released in the years to come. Dept. Created by Matt Kindt, H is one of those examples as the fantasy comic is adapted into a feature film. The story focuses on a woman searching why her father, a scientist, was killed, on a journey that leads her to investigate a deep-sea research facility at the bottom of the ocean.

8 High in the Clouds
Every year, streaming services compete for audiences’ attention with new content, much of which is licensed adaptations of well-known stories. High in the Clouds is an upcoming animated feature film directed by Timothy Reckart and based on a novel of the same name by Paul McCartney. High in the Clouds follows a young squirrel named Wirral who joins a team of rebels who all happen to be anthropomorphic animals.
7 Players
As much as they hate to admit it, most people love a well-made romantic comedy, despite the genre being crammed with mediocre releases. Players is Netflix’s next big attempt at the genre, and it stars Tom Ellis and Gina Rodriguez.
It follows the life of a sportswriter who falls head over heels in love with a woman he just wanted to hook up with. The cast is rounded out with appearances by Damon Wayans Jr., Liza Koshy and Joel Courtney. Directed by Trish Sie, who had her big break in 2017 with Pitch Perfect 3.
6 The Division
With the recent release of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, audiences are more optimistic about video game adaptation. The Division, based on the Tom Clancy game of the same name published by Ubisoft, has been in the works for quite some time. Jake Gyllenhall has not only been confirmed as Jessica Chastain’s lead, but is also a producer on the project.
The military action film is directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, whose work ranges from comedies like We Are the Millers and Easy A to blockbuster action like Netlfix’s Skyscraper and Red Notice. The Division is currently in pre-production with an estimated release date of 2023.
5 Heart Of Stone
It seems Netflix is dead set on bringing Gal Gadot into every major action blockbuster they have in production, and Heart of Stone will be their next big movie from the streaming giant. It’s being described as a spy thriller that Netflix wants to land as their version of the Mission Impossible or 007 series. It was originally slated to be a Skydance Entertainment release, with Netflix getting the rights to the film.
Joining Gadot will also be Crazy Rich Asians’ Jing Lusi and 50 Shades of Grey’s Jamie Doran, with longtime director Tom Harper taking the lead.
4 Havoc
From writer/director Gareth Evans comes an action thriller that centers on a detective trapped in the criminal underworld after the events of a drug deal go awry. Alongside Tom Hardy in the lead role, the cast includes standout names such as Timothy Olyphant, Forest Whitaker and Luis Guzman.
With Evans credited as a driving creative force in both popular entries in The Raid film series, viewers can likely expect a high-octane action experience with outstanding choreography and pacing in Havoc 2023.
3 Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget
After more than 20 years since the release of the original Chicken Run film, Netflix will release a sequel in 2023 titled Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Sam Fell is set to direct the film, who has used his talent to direct Flushed Away and ParaNorman, among others.
The sequel will follow Ginger’s life after escaping Tweedy’s farm and will focus on her team returning to the mainland to try and save chickens from a brand new threat. Zachary Levi, Thandiwe Newton and Bella Ramsey are some of the talented voices who will bring the characters to life.
2 The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar
Every time Wes Anderson releases a new film it feels like the film industry grinds to a halt as each of his releases feels like an event in its own right. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is based on a collection of short stories by Roald Dahl resulting from Netflix’s acquisition of the rights to the author’s entire library of works.
As with most Wes Anderson movies, the cast is stacked with movie stars and character actors. It has been confirmed that The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar will feature appearances by Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley, Dev Patel and Rupert Friend.
1 Strangers
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson directs “Strangers,” a dark comedy centered on a pact two teenagers make to fight back their bullies.
This is Robinson’s second directorial film under the Netflix banner, following her 2019 release of Someone Great, starring Gina Rodriguez. The two teenage girls are played by Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes, best known as Riverdale’s Veronica. Strangers will also feature TV stars Sophie Turner and Austin Abrams from Game of Thrones and Euphoria respectively.
