EXCLUSIVE: Palisades Media Group, a multifaceted Santa Monica-based agency known in entertainment circles for its marketing work on behalf of Netflix, has abruptly closed after 26 years in business.
According to multiple sources, agency employees arrived for work on Friday and an email was sent early in the morning informing them that all company offices would close, effective immediately. Employees are paid to this day and receive a third of their accrued vacation pay, a person close to the situation said, with no severance pay or extended health insurance coverage.
Given the role of agencies as intermediaries in the advertising business, often receiving funds from clients and placing orders with platforms that carry brand messages, the sudden move surprised many players in the advertising community. It leaves questions about the fate of Palisades-controlled marketing budgets, some of which ran into the millions of dollars.
Palisades owner and CEO Roger Schaffner did not immediately respond to emails and voicemails from Deadline. General messages to the company were also not returned.
With the motto “speak soft and hurry”, the agency handled media buying, creative and social media for a variety of clients. Along with Netflix, the company’s website listed cultural and entertainment clients such as Bleecker Street, Orion Pictures, the Hollywood Bowl, the San Francisco Opera and smart TV maker Vizio. Beyond the media world, his list also included Duluth Trading Co., Pacific Life and Zelle.
