An interesting exhibition of ceramics and prints by a dozen artists is available at the small and welcoming All People Arts Gallery, 1865 Parsons Ave., on the south side of Columbus.

“Pots & Graphics” presents almost 30 works — alternating graphics with ceramics in a gallery setting — by artists both well-known and new to the city’s art scene.

Julie Byrne, whose unusual sculpted figures are familiar to gallery-goers, has several works in this exhibition, including “Icarus,” a sober, elfin man rising from a base of dense green foliage.

Jim Bowling, professor of art at Otterbein University, creates narrative sculptures including “Mo(u)rning,” a contemplative man sitting naked on the bed of an antique doll, and “Past Imperfect,” five multicolored blob-like figures emerging from an antique chest.

Young artist Asa Jordan has created the quirky “Slider”, a small ceramic mug emblazoned with an image of the title hamburger.

Notable printmakers include Karen Campbell with her colorful monoprint “Crossing to Safety”; and Christine D’Epiro Abbott whose “Preparations for the next day” document a cluttered living space (perhaps during COVID) in a mostly abstract presentation, but with visible household objects.

In Elaine Workley’s detailed “Analog Daydream,” snippets of urban buildings and brown-toned rooms live together in a sophisticated print.

Combining collage and printmaking, Lynne Wise has created a sumptuous portrait: “Green Eyes” uses layers of color and subtle additions of fabric, thread and glitter to create the face of a complex and alluring young woman.

All People Arts was founded in 2017, and opened its gallery in 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic began. The goal of the organization and the gallery is to provide space and artistic opportunities for local artists and the Parsons Avenue community, as well as reach out to greater Columbus, said gallery director Annie Burley, who is also an artist.

“We’re artists supporting artists,” Burley said.

Executive director (and artist) Shelbi T. Harris-Roseboro said the gallery and the organization’s outreach programs — workshops and community events — are important to the South Side, which “doesn’t have a lot of access to the arts.”

“But we also want to be present in the Columbus community as a whole,” she said.

Upcoming events will include the gallery’s next exhibition, “Who We Are,” featuring works by artists with disabilities from the Art Outside the Lines studio, opening August 3, and a joint weekend of events in September celebrating the anniversary of All People Arts.
