“House of Gucci,” “Gladiator” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” are movies they want to see this month.
The slate of new Amazon Prime Video releases this month left us excited to spend the holiday weekend enjoying some of our bookstore favorites, from the horror of the teen comedy “Jennifer’s Body” to the biography of Nelson Mandela, “Mandela.”

“House of Gucci” (2021) (Available July 2)
After making its theatrical debut in November 2021, the crime drama documenting the story of the Gucci family’s fascination and murder will hit Prime Video this month. The film follows Lady Gaga as Patricia Reggiani while following Maurizio Gucci, played by Adam Driver, who is the heir to 50% of Gucci’s business. After Patricia develops a deviant scheme to give Maurizio a controlling interest in Gucci – advice that Maurizio follows and it turns out that the family escapes to Switzerland — Maurizio sends Patrizia and their son. With Gucci cut off and Maurizio seeking divorce, Patrizia seeks fatal revenge.
“Gladiator” (2000) (Available July 1)
Ridley Scott’s epic historical drama follows the rise of Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius, played by Russell Crowe. After Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix, kills his own father, Emperor Marcus Aurelius, and takes the crown, Maximus wants to defeat his slavery and become a gladiator to seek revenge.
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (1961) (Available July 1)
This 1961 romantic comedy is a cornerstone of American culture, featuring Audrey Hepburn’s performance as Holly Golightly’s partner and her cat, “Cat.” Opening with the classic shot of Holly eating her morning dough outside of Tiffany’s, audiences learn about Holly’s mysterious life in pieces and pieces as she pursues a friendship with the struggling novelist Paul, interpreted by George Peppard. Left with a curiosity about Holly’s past and family after Holly denies him for leaving, Paul investigates a suspicious man and finds the answers he was looking for.
“Clueless” (1995) (Available July 1)
“Ugh, like!” A different kind of classic comes to Prime Video with this film directed by Alicia Silverstone. A loose adaptation of “Emma,” Jane Austen’s “Clueless” follows teenage Cher (Silverstone) as she navigates high school in Beverly Hills. After her change of Tai “unhip” back and a traumatic event occurs, Cher feels helpless and wants to reflect on her life and priorities. Filled with factory fashion, fellow friends and slang “totally rad” enough, the 1990s film developed a cult following resulting in several sitcoms and spinoffs books.
“Mandela” (1996) (Available on 1 July)
“Mandela” documents the life of Nelson Mandela, President of South Africa from 1994-1999. The biography discusses Mandela’s family, education and the struggle for freedom for all ethnic groups through his relentless activism. Accompanied by the Academy Awards and the International Documentary Association, the film covers a wide range of fields, from Mandela’s early activism to his election as Africa’s first democratically elected leader. ‘Down.
“Jennifer’s Body” (2009) (Available July 1)
Starring Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried and Adam Brody, “Jennifer’s Body” has all the form of a horror comedy and cult film of the 2000s. What would you do if you suspected that your best friend, the high school cheerleader Jennifer (Fox), was in possession, and this leads her to kill her male classmates? Seyfried’s character, Needy, takes the library and finds out what she will save her friend – even if it means breaking up with her boyfriend to save him.
“Rosemary’s Baby” (1968) (Available July 1)
The psychological horror film follows Mia Farrow as Rosemary, a young woman married to a stage actor, as she and her husband, Guy (John Cassavettes), move into a new apartment building that is said to be haunted. They quickly leave their elderly neighbors, a family whose death and tragedy seem to follow. Amid a strange hallucination from Satan, Rosemary becomes pregnant, but addresses the pain during her pregnancy. It is unclear if Rosemary will become pregnant and, even more frighteningly, what will happen if she does?
