The Netflix release date for Tom Holland’s action-adventure adaptation Uncharted has been revealed. The film, which is adapted from the popular Uncharted video game series, was first released in cinemas in February this year after years of development hell and postponements due to COVID-19. Despite negative critical reviews, the film was a modest box office success, grossing close to $ 402 million against a budget of $ 120 million, and is one of the most lucrative video game adaptations ever. Expectations were high for the action-packed adventure that saw Holland starring as Nathan Drake, a bartender and explorer who goes in search of a fabled treasure alongside fortune hunter Sully, played by Mark Wahlberg.

The streamer has gone through a difficult half-year in which subscribers have left Netflix and are talking about controversial measures, such as including ads. So it seems that the streaming giants are trying to attract more of an audience by adding movies that they think will attract subscribers. Uncharted represents the kind of title that has an existing audience via the video game medium, and it’s an addition that will definitely attract some interest on the platform. It seems clear that Netflix has been working on getting back to the top of the streaming industry again, and this is a small step towards achieving that.
