ESCANABA – The Upper Peninsula Arts and Culture Alliance (Alliance) is looking for volunteers and board members.

Covering all 15 counties of the Upper Peninsula, the Alliance aims to make arts and culture more visible, more connected and more celebrated, as part of the broader fabric of the regional U.P. Development.

The Alliance aims to foster and foster creativity through connections between artists, historians, performers, audiences, arts and culture organizations, as well as the economic development, leisure and tourism industries, with which they work closely for a prosperous future for to create our region.

The U.P. Arts and Culture Alliance is the regional new generation agency for Region 1b the six Central U.P. Counties: Algiers, Delta, Dickinson, Marquette, Menominee and Schoolcraft counties.

Alliance president Sue Roll said she is trying to grow every county in the U.P. She says the alliance currently needs representatives on its board of directors from Menominee, Baraga, Luce, Schoolcraft, Chippewa, Ontonagon and Keweenaw counties.

“We need more representation from these areas of the UP. To pursue the Alliance’s goal of fostering connections and collaborations between artists, historians, artists, organizations and audiences in the Upper Peninsula, all while adopting arts and culture sustainable initiatives and policies encouraged for quality of life in the U.P.

MACC accept mini-grant applications; d’Allianz bitt free Workshop

The Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC) is currently accepting mini-scholarship applications for the 2023 tax year.

A Tuesday, June 28 at 6 p.m. CST at the First Street Art Gallery in Menominee, the Upper Peninsula Arts and Culture Alliance will present a free workshop to review guidelines and give writing strategies. The workshop is open to anyone interested; Grants Writing workshops can be requested for small group or private meetings with the Grants Coordinator.

Michigan nonprofit organizations, schools, and communities are eligible to apply for arts and culture projects that take place between October 1, 2022 and September 30, 2023.

Applications for Arts Projects Minigrants and Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Minigrants are due by August 3, 2022. Individual artist and arts and / or culture administrators are also eligible to apply to PODgrants, in addition to non-profit organizations.

In addition, minigrant awards of up to $ 1,500 are available to pay for arts and cultural equipment (including repairs of art equipment) or supplies used in a classroom or school setting.

Also, bus minigrants (formerly Arts and Culture Trek Grants) awards of up to $ 500 are available to cover the transportation cost of an art or culture related excursion. Applications for these school-based grants are due on August 3, at 5 p.m.
